The main thing for you to consider will be your budget.
Try to fix it in your mind just how much you want to spend, total, on your set-up.

You already have the PS3 to consider (do you already own one?). The PS3 is capable of playing Blu-ray discs, so you already have the High-def source set.

There were problems with older model LCD projectors having a "door screen effect". This has been cleared up in the more recent models. DLP Projectors also had a "rainbow" effect problem, but that has largely been cleared up.

So, while staying within your budget, just look around for the projector (LCD or DLP) that will best fit your needs. There are many models (of both types) to be found that are under $600 and brand new.

I will suggest you get a 1080p Sanyo Z2000 and a Carada fixed frame screen.

I think that would more than blow him and yourself away. Don’t forget a sound system. For that you can piece together a great infinity beta system or just buy this.

As for the screen, check out goosystems.com for a $150.00 do-it-yourself-paint kit to create a 110" diagonal painted movie screen on your wall.

For the final calibration of the Infocus SP4805, go to your local DVD rental place and check out any Disney/Pixar animated film [i.e., The Incredibles] and use the THX Optimizer to set up the proper brightness, contrast levels.
