Sharp JX 9460 – The Best Machine You Will Get
Printer specifications- The Sharp JX 9460 printer uses JX 9460 printer cartridge and is definitely not the most fashionable and technologically advanced printer on the market. However rather good quality laser prints at speeds of 6 ppm at 300 resolutions are produced. Users have a choice between landscape or portrait page orientation. A 250 sheet paper cassette with manual feed slot for paper types such as film, labels and envelopes comes standard with your purchase. Epson FX 80, IBM- Proprinter and Graphics Printer emulations plus 5 standard emulations are available on the device. Very slow memory capacity of 1.0 RAM is also included with the printer.
Interfacing options- Unfortunately, only a very outdated connectivity option is available in the form of a Parallel port. This makes the printer highly unappealing as USB interfacing is the in-thing, with most computers not even accepting parallel ports anymore.
Accessories- A couple of accessories are available for the printer in the form of envelope and paper cassettes, expansion memory, font cards, PostScript Emulation and interfacing boards. Very unnecessary extra’s in case of regular printing.
Controls- The Sharp JX 9460 Printers’ controls are very user-unfriendly to say the least with a bunch of lights that lit up like a Christmas tree even with the printer is operating even without errors. The control panel consist out of a couple of buttons and lights indicating print status and print options. It is essential to make sure that the printer status is set to offline when attempting to use any of the function keys. Most of the key’s are dual function depending on the amount of times and duration pressed. The error light is lit when printing errors occurs. Online light is lit when printer is online and ready to get data from the pc. Manual light is lit when the printer is on manual feed mode and the data light will blink when printer awaits feed commands.
Power saver- The Sharp JX 9460 printers is super environmentally friendly with it’s built-in power saving feature. Your printer will be set on this mode upon setup. Should there be no transmission of data or key’s pushed for a pre-set time frame, the machine will go into power saving mode. Power consumption is significantly reduced by the reduction of temperatures of the fusing unit by the feature.
Paper compatibility- The printer is very fussy when it comes to paper size compatibility and will only accepted letter, A4, envelope, label, transparency and legal sizes. Envelope sizes accepted by the printer are International C5, DL, Business and Monarch. Steer clear from envelopes with any attachments such as strings, tabs, snaps or even windows as they have the potential of causing incredible damage the printer. Use only manufacturer approved transparencies. It is important to adjust your density when using transparencies. Just be sure to use JX 9460 toner cartridge .
Font cards- Font cards provide fonts that do not come standard with your printer. This credit card sized card is inserted in a special card slot on the right card side of the printer. Please make sure that the card is inserted or removed while online and data lights are off and no prints are being produced. Should the card be inserted while lights are lit erratic prints and hardware errors may occur.
Toner- The JX 9460 toner cartridge yields approximately 3 000 copies at a retail price of between US$ 199.00 and US$89.00. The machine is a bargain in terms of quality but a loss when it comes to the old fashioned technology employed.
