Make Sure Your ‘Must-Have’ Gadgets are Still Being Used in 12 Months’ Time
Nowadays there seems to be gadgets for just about any application, for reading to finding your way around a new city. With so many new technologies it can be easy to buy a huge number, as the contemporary gadgets always seem amazing. That’s until you actually take it out of the box and find out that it wasn’t good value.
Having the knowledge of which gadgets will be useful enough for you to use on a regular basis will not only save you cash on things you won’t need. It will also save you from a lot of frustration when you try to put away all of the gadgets you buy.
Here are some ideas to assist you to decide whether the item you are thinking of buying will be one you’ll actually use, or if it will only end up left to go dusty in your loft or basement.
The first consideration to bear in mind when you are browsing new gadgets is how often will you use it. You may really want to use a gadget, but everyday living may not make using it practical. As an example: you’ve been planning on buying a mobile phone with lots of great features, such as the ability to view full-length movies. This sounds great, but you’re not somebody who has time to view movies while away from your home, so this mobile phone gadget will never get any use.
Do you think you will use the gadget or do you want it just because of the new technology? One good example is the DVD cleaner. Folks don’t use DVD cleaners half as regularly as they originally thought they woulddo. Instead, they tend to wipe the DVD off with some cloth, as it’s muchfaster and less of a faff than finding room on your TV stand for an extra piece of gadgetry.
Do you really think you need a particular gadget? iRobot vacuums are one more example. Although they are a novelty and would probaby make housekeeping easier, if you only have a very tiny area of carpet this would probably be wasteful.
Would that gadget really offer you a great benefit? Just because a gadget is nice does not mean it will really be all that beneficial. One example would be the wireless mouse. When these first hit the shelves, everybody needed one, that is until they realized how expensive it was to keep the thing supplied with batteries.
Will the gadget be used regularly – at least once a week? A gadget that labels file folders for you is fun, but if you don’t label file folders more than once a year, this gadget will probably end up gracing the garbage can in the sky before long.
To decide if you’ll really use a gadget, simply ask yourself those questions.
- If you will not use it on a regular basis, or
- If the gadget does not actually make a job easier,
there is little chance that you’ll get much use out of it. You can conclude, then that it isn’t a Must Have gadget.
